Expression
I have to get it out.
When I'm at my most creative, the muse doesn't hand me a particular message to send or fill me with the sense of a plot to a story. The creative spark manifests as a mental itch, a palette of tensions and subliminal flickers, a bubbling up that... if I'm lucky... comes out as a controlled eruption.
How do you decide the medium to use in translating the welling emotion, internal nervous quivering, and jumble of logical and illogical thoughts into something people can understand and possibly appreciate? Do you even want people to understand? Does that matter?
Sometimes, I turn to painting or sketching, but most often I turn to writing.
Usually, for me, it only matters that I got it out. I get the urge to say something. Occasionally, it is just a sentence, but those that know me know that it is more often a long essay on a subject. I can well up to the breaking point and furiously hammer out a 4-page email, and send it off to an account that I know full-well hasn't been checked in years...
and the pressure is gone.
I have created.
It was all about me.
It doesn't matter if anyone ever reads it, thinks about it, appreciates or hates it. These are all secondary, post-process concerns. What matters to me is that I had this inside of me and that I got it out.
Once it is pushed out into the world the mental quivering subsides.
It is over, until next time.
It doesn't have to be sent into the void, but, what do I do with it?
I'll think way too much about a topic that will never naturally come up in the few conversations I actually have, and so I'll put it here.
Ideally, I'd hope I find some kindred spirits that see something unique in the way I think and gain a new perspective. It is possible you'll be motivated to critique my thoughts and help me gain a new perspective instead. Or, perhaps you'll come by periodically to try to find something so batshit that you can screenshot it and make it into a meme. What matters to me is that I got it out. Everything after that is just a bonus.
I have set this site up as a means for my creations to be accessible to others since I've repeatedly been told others would find something in it. Some of the posts will be ramblings like this, some will be deliberate fictional content, and some of it is likely to be in genres & formats that I haven't forseen.
Stop by, and take with you whatever is interesting, and I hope whatever you find enriches your life.
